Three Common Industrial Shelving Options To Choose From

Posted on: 15 April 2019

Generally speaking, available industrial shelving options can be broken down into three main forms of shelving. Each of these shelving options is suitable to particular environments depending on factors like shelf capacities, material, costs, aesthetics, and more.

If you're choosing a shelving structure from a company such as Warehouse Equipment Solutions for your facility, you should familiarize yourself with these three shelving types. You should also learn a bit about what the biggest advantages and disadvantages to using each one are.

The following is some basic information on the three shelving types and the particular pros/cons of each option:

Steel shelves

Steel shelving is frequently used in warehouse environments, but it can also be used in shop and office environments as well. It works well for storing parts and can feature both open and closed designs. Frequently, sway braces or back braces are added to steel shelving to ensure the best possible stability.

In terms of advantages, steel shelving is known for how adjustable it is and how small the increments are with which it can be adjusted using compression clips. While steel shelving is highly customizable, it does tend to add up in terms of costs, and the installation process may be a little more involved.

Rivet shelves

Rivet shelving is most commonly seen in warehouse and storage room environments. Rivet shelving is typically a combination of a steel frame with decking that consists of materials like particle board, plywood, or wire.

This type of shelving is known for being very simple to assemble. It is also known for its strength. Other advantages of rivet shelves are the wide variety of available sizes and the ability to accommodate large capacities of supplies.

In terms of disadvantages, rivet shelving is sometimes criticized in regards to aesthetics because it is one of the least sightly shelving options. Also, rivet shelving tends to be on the heavy side.

Wire shelves

Wire shelving is a simple form of shelving that includes no sway braces or anything to obstruct access. This makes it accessible from all four sides. Usually, wire shelving is used in less heavy duty environments.

Of all the shelving types typically used in industrial environments, wire shelving tends to be the most attractive in terms of appearance. Wire shelving is easy to keep clean and adjust to varying heights.

On the downside, wire shelving is typically one of the most expensive types of shelving available. Also, wire shelving generally holds less materials in terms of both size and weight.

CNC And Water Jet Fabrication: An Introduction

The first time I watched a water jet machine in operation, I was awestruck by the speed and precision with which it cut through the metal. That's when I knew I had to understand what made them work. I spent years researching and learning the basics of how CNC programming drove the machines, and the language that made the programming function. In my research, I learned that, while CNC was the most efficient means, it wasn't widely known. That's why I created this site. I hope to show others the value in CNC programming so that they can determine if it is right for their operation.
