Troubleshooting A Windsor Vacuum That Shuts Off After Five Minutes
Posted on: 17 April 2019
When you are using a Windsor Sensor vacuum, you might discover that it shuts off after five minutes. This can be very frustrating, but there is a way to get to the bottom of the problem. Oftentimes, there is an internal heat sensor that is turning off the motor. You'll need to identify the cause to prevent this from happening.
Reset the Motor
The sensor often comes with an external switch that needs to be reset when the sensor turns the vacuum off. If the problem persists, you might have an issue with the motor. But first, you must make sure that there is no blockages that are causing the motor to overheat.
Clean Out the Vacuum
A blockage in the vacuum or a bag that is too full will prevent air from passing through the vacuum, starting near the floor where the vacuum picks up dirt. If this happens, cleaning out the vacuum will stop the engine from overheating. Remember to clean the brush. Make sure to regularly clean out the hygiene sensor so that the motor breathes better.
Check the Power Supply
If your vacuum doesn't need to be cleaned out, there might be a problem with the motor. The motor might be defective because it doesn't have a strong and uninterrupted power supply. Check the power cord and make sure there are no broken or bent prongs.
Look at the rest of the cord as you work your way toward the vacuum. Check to make sure that the outer insulation for the cord hasn't been cut or burnt through. A damaged cord can not only cause your motor to wear out, but may also create an electrical and fire hazard.
Replace the Motor
If the motor is broken, detach the two black wires from the terminal block. The motor cover should be found on the vacuum motor and the housing. Remove the motor and put a new motor in place. When the motor is seated, it should not be turned. Then, the two black wires should be attached again.
Replacing a Windsor Sensor motor can be worth it because the sensor can cost around 1/4 of the cost of replacing the entire vacuum. However, the other parts might also be worn out and you may find that it is more worth it to buy a new vacuum. But by keeping your vacuum for as long as possible, you'll save it from ending up in a landfill. For more information, reach out to a supplier of Windsor Sensor vacuum parts.
